Intro:

E---12-12--12------12--15---------------
B--------------13-----------------------
G---11-11--11--11--11--12--12\7---------
D---------------------------------------
A----------------------10--10\5---------
E---10-10--10--10--10-------------------

Note: The last two notes are slid down to the 5th and 7th fret of the A and G string. It is not important which frets you stop the slide on. Stopping around these two notes sets you up nicely for the next part.

Part A (REPEAT ONCE)

E---8---------5--7--6--5--------0-3-5-1-3-0----------
B------8--5----------------------------------1-3-0---
G-----------------------------0-0-4-5-2-4-0----------
D---5---------3--5--4--3---------------------2-3-0---
A------7--3------------------------------------------
E----------------------------------------------------

Part B (Play this whole riff twice)

E----3-2-1-----0----------------3-2-1-----0--8--8-8-
B----------4---------1---1-3----------4------6--6-6-
G------0-----5-----2---2----------0-----5-----------
D----------------3----------------------------------
A-3--------------------------3----------------------
E---------------------------------------------------

E-------3-2-1-----0---------------------------------
B-------------4---------1----1-3---4----------------
G---------0-----5-----2----2-------5--7-------------
D--5----------------3-----------------8--10---------
A----3-----------------------------------10-------3-
E----------------------------------4--6--8----3-3---

Suggestion: A lot of this song is tricky when you first start playing it especially if you are not used to finger picking. I found it helpful to break down the difficult riffs into small 4 or 5 note pieces and play those small parts repeatedly to a metronome set at a slow tempo.

Part C

E-----------------0----------------------0----------
B-------------------1-------------------------------
G--5-5--5----5-7------2-0----5-5--5--5-7------------
D--6-6--6--------------------6-6--6-----------5-----
A---------6-------3---3-------------6-------3---3---
E--4----4------------------1/4----4-----------------

E-----------------0-----------
B-------------------1---------
G--5-5--5----5-7------2-0-----
D--6-6--6---------------------
A---------6-------3---3-------
E--4----4---------------------

Note: In part C I pluck the 6th fret of the A string 3 different times. That is one of the last notes I've added to this part. You could get away with not playing that particular note but I think it sounds great with it in there. I started off plucking that particular note with my thumb but I noticed at higher speeds I was missing that note most of the time or it wasn't ringing out very loudly. I have since switched to playing that note with my index finger and I find it much more easy to play at higher speeds.

Hurry Up Mario

E-----10--10-10----11--11-11-----12--12-12-----13--13---
B---8------------9------------10------------11----------

Intro (3rd Time)

E---12-12--12------12--15---------------
B--------------13-----------------------
G---11-11--11--11--11--12--12\7---------
D---------------------------------------
A----------------------10--10\5---------
E---10-10--10--10--10-------------------

After the hurry up mario riff the game plays Part D at an accelerated pace:

Part D (2nd time)

E--0---------1-1-------5-5-5-3-1---0--------
B----1-------1-1-1-----6-6-6-5-3-----1------
G------0-1-2-----2---------------------2-0--
D----------3-----3--------------------------
A--3---3-3-------------------------3---3----
E----------1-------1/3----------------------

E--0---------1-1-----------1-1-1-0-----0--------
B----1-------1-1-1-----0---3-3-3-1-3-----1------
G------0-1-2-----2----0------------4-------2-0--
D----------3-----3-------------------------3----
A--3---3-3-----------------------------3-----3--
E----------1---------3--------------------------

FLAG GRAB

E-3/15----------------------4-----------6-6-6-6----8-
B-------------5-8-5--------4-4---------6--6---6------
G------------5------------5-----------7---7---7---9--
D-----------5------------6-----------8---------------
A----------7------------6-----------8----------------
E-------3H8----------4H8--------6H10-------------8---

Note: 3h8 is a really big stretch. You don't actually have to use a hammer on but a hammer on is really fast so it helps. Here is an alternative way of playing this with a little less stretching:

E-3/15----------3-----------4-----------6-6-6-6----8-
B-------------5---5--------4-4---------6--6---6------
G------------5------------5-----------7---7---7---9--
D---------2-5------------6-----------8---------------
A--------3--------------6-----------8----------------
E-------3------------4H8--------6H10-------------8---

So there you have the advanced finger picking style guitar tabs for super mario bros theme song. I think these melodies sound great at slow speeds. The actual game plays the melody very fast. I suggest trying to play it slow and accurate. don't worry about speed at all. Playing along to a metronome is a good idea but the rhythm in the super mario bros game is some sort of latin rhythm which makes playing to a standard beat a little difficult. It's difficult but far from impossible. Other than that just take your time and practice religiously.
